Weapons Detection System at SHS

Sharpstown High School implemented a new weapons detection system, called Open Gate. The system, which uses advanced sensors and AI, aims to quickly and efficiently screen students and visitors for weapons, including firearms. The goal is to enhance safety by adding another layer of security to the school environment. 

Below is a guide to assist students, staff and visitors in entering the building efficiently.

• Laptops/iPads - Must be out of the backpacks when entering the building.
• Backpacks - Straps should be on both shoulders.
• Purses - Crossbodies need to be worn at the front, not the side.
• Large Objects (i.e. cups, umbrellas, etc.) - Need to be outside of the backpack and held in front of your body.
• All items subject to inspection during screening.
